The psychiatric unit is an example of a subpart that could have its own NPI if the hospital determines that it should. (1) The psychiatric unit in a hospital is not a legal entity but is part of the hospital (the "parent"), which is a legal entity. Here are three examples of organization health care providers that may be considered subparts and may apply for NPIs if so directed by their "parents": Many organization health care providers who apply for NPIs are not legal entities themselves but are parts of other organization health care providers that are legal entities (the "parents"). To everyone out there, don't be afraid to go to another clinic for a second opinion if your current clinic doesn't take your issues seriously. They also put me on pain medication which was a life saver for me because the pain was so bad at that point that it was hard to even walk and move around. It was so bad, that they didn't think injections wouldn't do much good and ordered surgery for my back. The MRI showed a severe herniated disc in my lower back and the disc was pushing into a nerve affecting my left leg. They ordered an MRI and after I went it to discuss the results, they understood why I was in so much pain. I decided to get a second opinion from an entirely different orthopedic clinic. At this point, I was just heartbroken and didn't know what to do because I was in too much pain to even do physical therapy. The doctor refused and said that I need to complete 6 weeks of physical therapy before she would even consider an MRI. During the phone call, I asked if I could get an MRI for my back because I knew this pain wasn't normal back pain for me and was just not going away. A few weeks later, the pain was not going away, so I had phone call appointment with a doctor to explain my situation. They just told me to use ice/heat packs and ibuprofen for the pain. They took at X-Ray and didn't find anything significant and sent me home. After a couple weeks, the pain didn't get better and I went back to be seen. At the first visit, they prescribed some steroids and said I should feel a lot better in about a week. For example, my back experienced some bad pain the end of July and I went to Park Nicollet for the pain. At times, they've been great, but recently, I've been experiencing some of the worst cases of medical gaslighting I've ever experienced. I have a love-hate relationship with Park Nicollet.
